First Bank set to sack 1000 of its workers First Bank of Nigeria is planning to sack at least 1000 of its staff. According to Bloomberg, the plan to cut jobs is as a result of the banks 82% loss in profit after its financial year ending for 2015. The bank also plans to focus less on providing loans to the oil industry as part of measures to increase its profit for the year 2016.

Report: Odion Ighalo is Watford's third highest earner with £30,000 per week salary According to a report by the Daily Sports UK, Nigeria's Odion Ighalo is the third highest earning player in Watford FC of England. The highest paid player in Watford is Mario Suarez, who earns about £45,000, while team captain Deeney Troy pockets £35,000 a week. Ighalo is third in the club's salary rankings with earnings of £30,000 weekly. Ighalo has scored 14 league goals this season.

Nigerian Navy declares Charles Ekpemefumor wanted for alleged hijack of MT MAXIMUS The Nigerian Navy has declared a man named Mr. Charles Ekpemefumor (pictured) - Wanted for the hijack of a Vessel named MT Maximus. In a statement released on their official website, Ekpemefumor was accused of being the mastermind of the pirate attack and hijacking of the vessel. After several unsuccessful attempts to invite him over for questioning on the allegations made, the Nigerian Navy officially declared him wanted. The statement reads, “It was earlier reported that a vessel, MT MAXIMUS with 18 crew members and carrying 4,368.203MT of Gas Oil was hijacked on 11 February 2016 by a group of suspected pirates off Cote d’Ivoire waters. Consequently, the Nigerian Navy deployed for rescue operations. The vessel was eventually rescued on 19 February 2016 within Sao Tome waters 320 nautical miles (nm) off the Nigerian coast. Nigerian Army responds to non-payment of soldiers allowances The Nigerian Army has explained the reasons behind the non-payment of soldiers' allowance in the last six months. According to the statement issued by Army Acting Director of Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman: "The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to some stories going round the media circles with the title “Disquiet in the war front as soldiers complain of unpaid allowance” alleging that there was problem in the Nigerian Army due to non-payment of allowances to some soldiers serving in the North East. In particular, they were alleging non-payment of outstanding peacekeeping operations allowance of troops that served in Guinea Bissau under the auspices of the Economic Community of West African States and operation allowances to some troops in counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations, among others. Photos: Army arrests tailors who make clothes for Boko Haram members The troops of 3 Battalion, 22 Brigade have arrested Bukar Gujja and Bukar Kahalifa, two tailors who makes clothes for Boko Haram terrorists. The troops arrested them alongside 4 other members of the terrorist group during an operation in Kala Balge yesterday April 28th. The gallant troops tracked and arrested the 6 terrorists kingpins who sneaked into Kala Balge as a result of the onslaught of our heroic troops on the terrorists in Sambisa. The unrepentant and hardened insurgents which include Musa Kalile Sabakara (an Ameer), Babagana John (an informant and also seller of foodstuffs), Isah Abakar (an Ameer) and Usman Abasa, (who specializes on cattle rustling and selling of food stuffs), as well Bukar Gujja (a tailor who prepare clothes for the terrorists) and Bukar Kahalifa (also a tailor who prepares the dress for the Boko Haram terrorists), are presently undergoing interrogation.

Photos: National Assembly Staff reportedly stabbed to death by okada riders in Kubwa A staff of the National Assembly, Suleiman Bello was  stabbed to death by an unknown motorcyclists popularly known as Okoda riders at Kubwa, Abuja yesterday April 28th. According to eyewitnesses, Bello who was driving a Toyota Camry got into a heated argument with a motorcyclist at Bhyanzin Junction after he rammed his car into a parked van while trying to dodge the motorcyclist who was driving on a wrong lane. As the argument ensued, the motorcyclist brought out a dagger and stabbed Bello repeatedly. Another motorcyclist came to the scene and also stabbed Bello, leaving him in the pool of his blood. According to media aide of Governor Ayo Fayose, Lere Olayinka, when Governor Ishaku and Fayose were in Israel sometime last year, Fayose told Ishaku not to worry, that the Supreme Court will validate his election whenever his case at the apex court came up.

Over 300 young boys in early puberty undergo mass circumcision at school in Phillipines Circumcision or 'tuli' as it is known in the Philippines is common in the country with 93% of males circumcised. It is tradition for boys about to enter puberty. Uncircumcised boys are often teased by peers so the boys endure the pain in order to be accepted socially. According to the World Health Organisation, 30 to 33 percent of men aged 15 or over are circumcised worldwide but the figure is much higher in Philippines at 93% where the majority of the population is Roman Catholic. The Filipino government funds the annual tradition to ensure that operations are conducted hygienically. In Marikana city which lies east of the capital, Manila, 300 boys took part in the tradition this week at a local school.  They are encouraged to wear loose, shirt-like clothing after the procedure. The President stated this while receiving the United States Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Samantha Power, at the Presidential Villa, on Thursday, April 21.  President Buhari said that the compilation of reliable data on the IDPs and refugees was being handled by designated Federal Government agencies, the military and other security agencies. Chad's President Idriss Déby Itno wins fifth term in Office 63 year old Incumbent Chadian President, Idriss Deby Itno, has been declared winner of the country's presidential elections. The Electoral body said Deby won by 61.56% of votes cast. This would be his fifth term in office after he took power via a coup 26 years ago. Mr Idriss Deby's supporters celebrated by firing guns into the air in the central square in the capital, N'Djamena.

Boko Haram now strap bombs on birds to carry out suicide attacks- Army The general officer commanding (GOC), 7 division of the Nigerian army, Maiduguri, Lamidi Adeosun, says Boko Haram members have resorted to using birds to carry out their suicide attacks. Lamidi said this while  speaking to American diplomats and security officials at the headquarters of the multinational joint task force MNJTF in Chad on Wednesday April 20th. According to  Independent UK , Lamidi said; “One picture showed a bird with an explosive strapped on its back, demonstrating a lot of ingenuity,”.  Lamidi also disclosed that his unit had received intelligence that ISIS members were being embedded into Boko Haram but that the Nigerian sect had not satisfied requirements for greater operational co-ordination.
