Police arrest 21-year-old mother for throwing her 12-day-old child in pit latrine
A mother has been arrested in Ogun state for allegedly throwing her 12-day-old baby into a pit latrine.
21-year-old Amudalat Taiwo, who lives at 28, Isheri Street, Ilaro in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun state, was arrested after her landlord woke on the morning of Wednesday June 20 and went to the toilet to ease herself only to hear the cries of a baby inside the pit toilet.

The lanlord, whose name was given as Oshunshina Olawale reported to the police and detectives were led to the scene where the latrine was broken and the child rescued.
The police spokesperson in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, narrated the incident on Monday, June 25.
He said: "On interrogation, she claimed that she is an orphan married to one Taiwo Owolabi who is already married to another woman and has five children. She stated further that the husband is not taking care of her and the baby and since she has no means of catering for the newly born baby, she decided to do away with her."
He added that the father of the baby was also arrested and the couple may be prosecuted after investigation.
The baby is safe and in stable condition at the Stella Obasanjo Motherless Babies home in Abeokuta.
